Bronto “served it up” by holding our first and hopefully not last, Wii Doubles Tennis Tournament Wednesday, August 20 – Friday, August 22nd. Over 28 Brontos were paired into doubles teams to compete with best of 3 sets for the championship and the glory of being named “Bronto Wii Doubles Champs.”
Over three days of play, teams spent many off hours of competition practicing their serving skills and perfecting the perfect backhand. The competitive spirit was contagious. Matt Williamson, VP of Sales, and Jameson Lopp, Software Engineer were paired together and were determined to take the Wii world by storm.
Matt and Jameson practiced for over 2 hours in the wee hours before work the first day of the tournament.
The spirit trickled into tennis attire, as the team “The Gloved Ones” entered the competition with their signature white gloves and white headbands. Sadly, “The Gloved Ones” lost in Round 3.
After days of fierce competition, the final round was played out on Friday afternoon, pairing “The Terminators” Alex Durzy, Support Engineer, and Ben DeFoe, Account Manager, against the formidable “Danger Duo” Matt Williamson, VP of Sales, and Jameson Lopp, Software Engineer. After nearly 15 minutes of play, “The Danger Duo” emerged as the victor and were greeted with the mystery winning prize, “Wii Tennis Pro” tshirts and the honor of being the Bronto Wii tennis champions.
After observing all the teamwork and dedication that went into this tournament, it’s clear that even though the competition was intense, it brought many Brontos together and helped in the spirit of collaboration and getting to know your co-workers better. What greater way to learn about someone than through playing Wii Tennis! We hope to continue this soon-to-be tradition. Wii Bowling anyone?

Greetings Caroline,
Great post on team building activities that really hits home as I have used similar methods when managing my Software Product Engineering teams. The only difference was I used a 2nd generation Nintendo and the game was Super Mario Brothers.
Have a Great Day,

It says a lot when a company plays as hard as it works.
BTW, love the shot of Carolyn – reminds me of Charlie’s Angels, just with a controller instead of a gun. And a headband. And without the other chicks. Okay, so maybe not Charlie’s Angels. But still, props to her for not having played Wii before and making it to the semi-finals her first shot.
