Brontos become “Assassins”

Bronto finished its third annual game of Assassin last Thursday, March 12th. This cut-throat game which requires skill, agility, and strategy occupied the lives of the Bronto team for one week. The rules are simple, assassins received a harmless nerf gun and a name. Their goal? Shoot your target with a nerf-gun while avoid being hit yourself. Once they “killed” their target, they received the name of their target and continue after them. Sounds easy until you realize the only safe zones are the Bronto office and nearby restrooms. Any trip to the restroom could be their last. Any step outside the doors of Bronto could be fatal.

Out of 35 Bronto Assassins, 28 lost their lives after only 3 days of play. By the 7th day there were 3 assassins left. To immortalize the legacy of those who lost their lives, here are some excerpts from the long list of obituaries:

My home was invaded by a terrorist who cased my house for 3 hours waiting for my arrival. Unfortunately my guard was down and so was my damn alarm system. Always and I must preach, always lock your doors kids!

As I pull into McDonalds at 6AM to get coffee and breakfast, I’m a little concerned because McDonald’s is not my usual breakfast destination. Spending last night at my “safe house” pulls me away from my usual Starbucks. I order coffee with 2 Splendas, knowing they will be absent, and I’ll get straight black. “Black Coffee?” I’m asked, “No, 2 Splendas” I reply with emphatic tone. Rolling up and receiving my coffee, I ask again if Splendas are there, and I’m assured by two employees they are. My Texas Hold’em skills alert me they are both lying, but the coffee is too hot to test right in front of them. Halfway to the office I take a sip, DAGUMMIT, no Splendas. It was at that time I should have known this morning was unlucky, turned around and gone back to bed. As I pull into my unique parking spot behind Bronto’s office building at 6:30AM, I’m confident my assassin is sound asleep at home under their pink blankey. I’m confident I’m the only one here. Within seconds of pulling open the door, I hear a high pitched pop. Before I’m stricken by the first round, I realize 6:30 wasn’t early enough. I’m not the first to the office, I’m actually the second…..

It was a bloodbath at the ballpark and my blood was added to the pool. Don’t slip in it.

shot in the back while playing with my puppy; the callous attacker forcing him to watch the gruesome scene unfold.

Traded my life for a free lunch, I think I came out ahead.

Congratulations to Andrea Frederick for winning and claiming this year’s title of most ruthless Assassin. Also, big hurrah for Kristen Gregory and Lucas Weber for strong finishes — but in the end there can be only one!
